Sleepers and long lost forgottens

I love finding out about a band from the very beginning. Being able to listening to them in their earliest state and track them as they progress in their abilities. Listening to them in the context of everything else that comes out at that time creates a unique experience that is among my favorite. It doesn’t always work out that way unfortunately and there are always a few bands that slip through the cracks. Ones that don’t make a big splash right away and then out of now where they come out with a great record and your left wondering, “Why haven’t I been listening to you all along?” as you rush to your favorite record store and buy up there entire back catalog. Sometimes this works out great and you find a ton of new great music to listen to, other times it blows up in your face. Times it has worked out great for me was when I found out about The National or Songs: Ohia. Other times it didn’t work were bands like The Lassie Foundation or Monster Movie. I like to call these bands that slip through the cracks sleepers or long lost forgottens and I have been listening to the following recently: Monroe Mustang, Am/Fm, Audible, Dakota Suite. Go check them out, it’s never too late to find out about a band that you’ve been neglecting for so long.

Oh and for you folks in the Midwest check this show out:

Alice Cooper
Thursday, August 23; 7:30 pm
Adler Theatre

The staff at the Adler could barely keep Wilco fans under control and now they want to try their hands at Alice Cooper fans. I’m thinking of going just for the entertainment of that. Kudos to the booking at The Adler as well, way to revive a great historical therater by brining in Alice Cooper. They’re also bringing in Mind of Mencia on November 10th, if you give a shit.
