5 Tid Bits

Crooked Fingers posts a new song off the up and coming record, Forfeit / Fortunes, called Phony Revolutions – Link. Being the huge Eric Bachmann fan that I am, I dig the song. It sounds a lot like a continueation from Dignity and Shame with some Spanish influences. Pick up a limited edition white vinyl version of the record here.

TW Walsh starts a new blog and talks about producing albums and other musical endeavors. This guy hasn’t met a side project he didn’t like.
The new craze is blog/labels. Chasing Lions starts one with this explanation:
Chasing Lions is a blog label, combining aspects of a music blog and elements of a record label. Our blog focuses on music and culture.
while our label works within the independent music industry. We are more than a label: we believe in art and the world (heart, life, culture, community) that drives it.
Not sure how this will work out, but Chasing Lions have don’t give a shit. Essentially with blogs you have to give opinions on things and some of those opinions are negative. So what happens when you have to give opinions about something on your label? No ones going to trust your opinion because it’s directly tied to dollars in your pocket.

The Soft Drugs, a TW Walsh side project, has called it quits. However, right before they pull the plug they’re giving fans a chance to download Side A of their new record, Get Back, here. You can also download their 2006 Ep, In Moderation, here. While I’m at it I’ll give you a link to their myspace page.

Last but far from least is Black Cab Sessions. Basically some european people gather artists into a Black Cab and have them perform and record a song. It’s that easy. Just listening to it, I don’t get much of the acoustics from the car or “special” recording conditions, but it’s a euro thing right? Artists include Damien Jurado, Death Cab For Cutie (ironey anyone?), My Morning Jacket and Fleet Foxes.
