Sub Pop Singles Club – December – Blues Control “Snow Day” b/w “Paul’s Winter Solstice”

2 songs from the blog-o-sphere acclaimed Blues Control are up for review for the December shipment of the Sub Pop Singles Club
“Snow Day” in general terms a soundscape track. A soft and circling piano/organ driven song with hints of a wind chime type sound in the background It sounds like it could be played in the background of old 70’s 80’s movies during a solemn building moment. Not exactly a dark mood, but hints at despair.
“Paul’s Winter Solstice” is another slightly haunting spirling soundscape. Repitious bells provide the tempo in the background as string insturments are both plucked and played with what sounds like a bow. Some brighter moods and melodies come into the picture later in this song. Again, this sounds like something that could be played in movies in the 70’s or 80’s as well as those in the classroom learning films about bees or the environment.
Finally! I get something new unique creative and interesting to review from the SP Singles Club. I’m not familiar with much of the back catalog, but this record makes me want to check them out more. A purely insturmental soundscape release here from Blues Control paints a nice picture in the mind of the listener. I will definately be checking out this band further and recommend this 7″.
