Sub Pop Singles Club 3.0 – July – The Dutchess & The Duke

The July edition of the Sub Pop Singles Club came just a few weeks ago on pink and blue swirl vinyl. It looks like Sub Pop is a little behind on production of the series. Nonetheless, here is another review
“Side By Side” – 9/10 – This is a great love song pop tune. They have a great sense for melody and harmony throughout the song. The lyrics bop right along with the rhythm of the song. I was looking forward to another good 7″ from this series and Dutchess & The Duke have delivered. I could play this song over and over again.
“Daggers” - /10 – This is a slightly darker and more traditional sounding song. As evidenced by the lyrics “There’s a dagger in my hand and I don’t want to put it in your heart.” Again I like this tune, but it’s not as catchy as the first song. It’s highlighted by the back and forth male/female vocals. I look forward to hearing more from this band. They seem like a band destine for bigger things. The 7″ from Arthur and Yu and this record are probably my favorite records from this Singles Club.
