Originally from Boca Raton, Florida, Eric Andre now lives in Los Angeles (by way of New York) and performs live almost every night of the week. Eric brings a manic energy to the stage, combining autobiographical experience, politics and experimental psychedelic rambling. He has been doing stand-up and sketch comedy in NY and LA since 2004 but began his career in Boston while attending Berklee College of Music. Eric was a finalist in NBC’s “Stand-Up for Diversity” showcase and also performed at the HBO Comedy Festival in Aspen. Television appearances include Comedy Central’s “Live at Gotham” and “Hatin’” on MTV. He can be seen every Sunday night in the aptly named “The Eric Andre Show” on Adult Swim, and he’s our guest today in 5 Questions.
FOH: “The Eric Andre Show”, your talk-show parody premiered on Adult Swim on May 20th. What can viewers expect to see if they tune in to that?
EA: Poop and pee pee mixed together.
FOH: On that show you work with Hannibal Buress, who’s written for both Saturday Night Live and 30 Rock. What’s the writing process like on this show for you two since those were network television sitcoms and Adult Swim is little bit more out there?
EA: We eat a bunch of bath salts, read Dianetics, and jerk off to pictures of L Ron Hubbard, for there is an alien ghost inside all of us…
FOH: Where did you get your start in standup, and at what point did you feel confident that you could be a headliner?
EA: I got my start in Boston as I was finishing college, I still suck at it, and barely have enough material to headline. Still don’t have the confidence. (not a joke)
FOH: Out of everything you’ve ever done in the entertainment industry, what do you take the most pride in?
EA: Directing “Two Girls One Cup”
FOH: What’s the weirdest or most unexpected thing that you’ve ever had happen to you during your comedy career?
EA: I slept outside summer of 2005. It sucked. (not a joke)
FOH: What do you have planned for the next twelve months?
EA: Cutting myself and listening to Sepultura
Eric can be seen on Adult Swim every Sunday night on “The Eric Andre Show” and will also be performing at Just for Laughs in July.
